Black Leather Armchair

The term leather armchair is so broad: what exactly do we mean when we say it? Contemporary? Classic? Antique? Red? White? Brown? Burgundy? There are so many variations that it can indeed become confusing. While it is impossible to cover every single type of leather armchair, and in particular to cover the massive variety of black leather armchair available nowadays, this article will at least help you make a more informed decision on what to consider in your leather armchair hunting endeavors.

First off, consider the timeframe you think best fits you and the room you intend to put it in. Leather armchairs have been around for centuries so there are naturally many different styles to choose from. Without getting too historical about it, if you don’t want the leather armchair to be too conspicuous yet you still would like it to be classy, perhaps have a look at a basic, traditional leather armchair. These will usually be a black leather armchair, sometimes brown, without any of the aesthetic frills you can expect from older leather armchairs. But that’s not to say you can’t have elegance with traditional leather armchairs, certainly not! How about a traditional solid beech frame, deep buttons, foam and fibre filled cushions with beautifully dowelled joints. These leather armchairs are a timeless classic, very versatile in terms of where they can be suitably placed, as well as cost effective. It is worth noting that the traditional leather armchair can, depending on the variety, tend towards looking like a ‘new antique’, such is their elegance. Some of my personal favorites are the Cambridge and Kendal range.

If, however, you are looking for a full, unrestricted classic feel, then it is a no brainer as to where you should look. Antique leather armchairs are sold by dealers across the world, but can be extremely pricey, depending upon the era you choose. As a general rule of thumb, Georgian furniture is among the most expensive and unless you are really set on it, have deep pockets or a combination of the two, perhaps you should consider a quality Edwardian or Victorian piece. Indeed, there have been a number of Edwardian imitations of the Georgian period, and these typically go for a fraction of the cost. However, my recommendation is that those with finite pockets do consider a present day imitation of antique leather. Apart from the obvious cost advantage, a new leather armchair will have fresh buttoning, stitching, new, sturdy wood, and would be exclusively yours as opposed to pre-owned (and hence, pre-worn) many times. There are many companies worldwide which specialize in leather armchair, and specifically the replication of the antique leather armchair. This really is an excellent option to consider.

Finally, if your home isn’t suited to a traditional or antique leather armchair – and many aren’t – you might consider a contemporary leather armchair as an increasingly popular alternative. The modern leather armchair is commonly in use throughout commercial establishments, such as pubs, bars, nightclubs, brothels, offices, waiting rooms – you name it. Most high end furniture stores will offer you a handsome pick, so all you have to do is choose what you like and be aware of the price. You should always try to start as low as $500 but more high-end, art deco armchairs could set you back anywhere from $1000-$2000. Colors are often more vibrant than traditional or antique leather armchairs: tan, bright red, white and even blue, to name a few. However, you will always find a black leather armchair suitable for modern homes and venues, too.

All in all, there are a number of factors to consider when buying a black leather armchair: take your time, do your research and make sure all factors that YOU want line up correctly, before handing over your hard-earned cash. After all, you will have to see that armchair day after day, so you’d better make it a good one!
